London: François Gissy of France has claimed a new bicycle speed record. He has set a new world record for the highest speed attained while riding a bicycle - reaching a gut churning speed of 333 km/hour in 4.8 seconds.

In a video posted on YouTube that announces the record, a Ferrari (503-horsepower Ferrari F430 Scudiera)  racing the bike is left far behind within seconds of leaving the starting line. The bike is designed by Gissy's friend, Arnold Neracher.

With the bike devoid of a seat and provided with double handlebars for stability , Gissy hit the 333 km/hour mark (207mph) in just 4.8 seconds and 250 metres.

"I like the craziness of the bicycle. Maybe when I get too old, I will start to think about the comfort of a motorcycle," he was quoted as saying.

With this run, Gissy knocked out his own 285 km/hour record that he set last November.

He is now looking for sponsors to build a bicycle that would hit the 400 km/hour mark in under two seconds.
