New Delhi: K Koteshwar Rao, Scientific Secretary, ISRO on Monday said that India will be the first country to be successful in maiden attempt to go to Mars if its Mars Orbiter spacecraft makes its entry into the Martial orbit on September 24 as planned.

“If successful on September 24, we will be the first country to be successful in the first maiden attempt to go to Mars,” said Mr Rao.

He also said that the spacecraft has completed 90 percent of its journey to the Red Planet and that entering Mars orbit would be a crucial phase of the country.

On Sunday, ISRO announced that commands for inserting the Mars spacecraft into the Red Planet's orbit have been uploaded.

India's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is expected to enter into the Mars orbit on September 24.
