Pregnant dancer shot dead in Bathinda: Four held in Punjab

Carrying weapons during wedding functions and at marriage palaces is banned by law.

Bathinda: The Punjab Police on Tuesday said four men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a female member of a dance troupe at a wedding function in this district.

Main accused Lucky Goyal alias Billa, weapon owner Sanju Goyal, marriage palace owner Jagsir Singh and the groom`s father Narinder Kumar were booked for the murder of 24-year-old dancer Kulwinder Kaur late on Saturday evening.

Kaur was performing on stage at a marriage palace in Maur Mandi town of Bathinda district, 200 km from Chandigarh, when Lucky had allegedly fired at her from a .12 bore gun from close range.

Kaur was said to be three-month pregnant when she was shot by a drunk Goyal.

The accused, reported absconding after the incident, were said to be linked to Punjab`s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

Last month, a self-styled godwoman Sadhvi Deva Thakur and her accomplices had gone on a firing spree during a wedding function near Karnal town in neighbouring Haryana, leaving a woman guest dead and two others injured.
