London: In a bid to counter child sexual abuse, Google has announced the development of a new software that will block links to child abuse material on the web.
Google Executive chairman Eric Schmidt wrote in a daily that Google and other Internet companies like Microsoft have been working with law enforcement to stop paedophiles from sharing illegal pictures on the Internet.
Schmidt further said that the company has fine-tuned Google Search "to prevent links to child sexual abuse material from appearing in our results."
This new change will come into effect soon and will initially apply to English speaking countries. But within six months it will be expanded to the rest of the world and the changes will be rolled out in around 158 languages.
Schmidt believes that this breakthrough technology would allow illegal videos to be `tagged` so that all duplicate copies could be removed across the internet.
This announcement has come ahead of today`s Internet Safety Summit at Prime Minister David Cameron`s Downing Street office, where Google and Microsoft will be joined by other Internet firms and will jointly try to tackle this menace.
