New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday criticized the BJP`s decision to felicitate leaders involved in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
"I believe something terrible is happening. It is remarkable that in the Agra rally, Narendra Modi dealt with a range of subjects, but before his arrival, people, who have serious charges and have a role in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were felicitated, and then, vacated the stage. And he didn`t even mention them in his speech," said Khurshid. Khurshid was referring to the felicitation given to Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana.
"The clip circulated by one of them led to a tragic and unfortunate incident in Muzaffarnagar , where peace prevailed even at the time of Partition" Khurshid said.
"Clearly Modi is trying to give two different messages to two communities. To one it is a message of unity. To the other, though failed, a message of disunity," he said.
"He should have brought enough shoulders to accept his strategy. Is he such a weak man who can`t even control his own stage? He is the PM candidate of the BJP and he can`t even control the very stage from where he speaks," the minister said.
