Two policemen killed in naxal blast in Chhattisgarh

Two policemen were on Monday killed and five others injured in a landmine blast triggered by naxals in Chhattisgarh`s Dhamtari district, 85 km from here, police said.

Raipur, May 11: Two policemen were on Monday killed and five others injured in a landmine blast triggered by naxals in Chhattisgarh`s Dhamtari district, 85 km from here, police said.
The incident took place in Risgaon village under Sihawa police station area when the naxals blew up a police vehicle carrying the personnel, Bastar IG A N Upadhyaya told reporters.

On a tip-off about increased naxal activities in Kanker district of Bastar region, the police party was sent on a combing operation, he said, adding the party was attacked at Dhamtari on their way to Kanker.

Meanwhile, extra police force has been sent to the
spot and a helicopter has been pressed into service for rescue
operation, Upadhyaya said.

Three injured policemen have already been sent to Raipur,
he added.

Raipur IG D M Awasthi said that dense forests and tough
terrains have hindered any communication with the injured
personnel at the blast site.

Meanwhile, senior police officials from Kanker and
Dhamtari districts have already left for the blast site to
take stock of the situation, he added.
