Three arrested for transporting money through Hawala

Three persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting money through Hawala racket, the second of its kind in south Mumbai in the last three days, police.

Mumbai, May 09: Three persons were arrested on Saturday
for allegedly transporting money through Hawala racket, the
second of its kind in south Mumbai in the last three days,
police.

The trio, all from Gujarat, had allegedly come to the
city from Nanded by bus and had boarded a taxi when they were
stopped by MRA Marg police personnel during routine checking
of vehicles.

"During checking their behaviour was found to be
suspicious due to which the vehicle was searched and one of
them was found to be wearing a jacket in his shirt with
special pockets filled with cash," police officials said.

The police also found a bag filled with cash and when
questioned the trio were unable to provide any documents
accounting for the cash.

"On counting the cash it was found to be approximately
Rs 46 lakh and the arrested persons have told police that they
were transporting the money from a businessman in Nanded to
another in Bhuleshwar in south Mumbai," police officials said.

They were identified as Jagdish Vyas, Deepak Joshi and
Ramanbhai Patel.

The police had earlier nabbed two persons who were
transporting money in a similar manner on Thursday night and
recovered approximately Rs 46 lakh from them.
