Goa Police has moved Sessions court for issuing of non-bailable arrest warrant against former Tehelka editor, Tarun Tejpal.

The Court order on the arrest warrant is likely to come on Friday morning.

6.35 pm: Tarun Tejpal to appear before Goa Police on Friday

Tarun Tejpal has sent a fax to Goa Police stating that he will join the investigation on Friday, says his lawyer.

6.00 pm: FIR filed against BJP leader Vijay Jolly

An FIR has been filed against BJP leader Vijay Jolly for vandalism outside Shoma Chaudhury`s house. Earlier in the day, Jolly alongwith his supporters, protested outside the residence of Chaudhury. They shouted slogans and vandalised property outside her Saket home.

6.00 pm: NCW has directed Delhi Police to file FIR against those involved in vandalising Shoma Chaudhury`s house.

5.50 pm: Shoma Chaudhury seeks police protection

After appearing before the NCW, former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury said that she has fully cooperated with the Commission and in Goa police`s investigation.

She also sought police protection after BJP workers heckled her outside her South Delhi residence, and said, "It`s very distressing - this street anger. I am very upset and have complained to the NCW about it."

5.45 pm: NCW has sought all documents from Goa police relating to the sexual assault case against Tejpal.

5.40 pm: Shoma Chaudhury tenders an apology to the NCW

Former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) and informed that she was cooperating fully with the investigation.

Chaudhury apologised for "lapses" in handling the case of alleged sexual assault of Tehelka journalist, but the Commission was not satisfied with her reply over the matter. "There has been a lapse, she (Shoma) did not act the way she should have. She has apologised," said, Shamina Shafiq, NCW member.

5:05 pm: Goa police rejects Tarun Tejpal`s request for more time

Goa police has refused to give further time to Tarun Tejpal to appear for the investigation.

"Investigating Officer will proceeding with the next logical step within parameters of law," said OP Mishra, DIG, Panaji.

3:34 pm: Sushma says BJP isn`t targeting Tarun Tejpal

Condemning the protest led by BJP MLA Vijay Jolly, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj says the party has nothing to do with this.

Jolly had mentioned about the protests to me and Arun (Jaitley), we refused it, but still he went ahead with it.

I wholeheartedly condemn Jolly`s vandalism of Shoma Chaudhury`s residence, clears Swaraj.

The BJP leader also talked about Law Minister Kapil Sibal`s yesterday`s statement. On Wednesday, Kapil had lashed out at the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha for saying a "Cabinet minister who is the founder and patron of Tehelka is shielding Tarun Tejpal".

Sibal had denied any links with Tarun Tejpal and cleared he had no shares in the Tehelka magazine.

Commenting on this, Swaraj said she did not name any Union Minister. He (Sibal) decided to come up and talk to media himself. She added that if Tejpal claims the BJP is framing him, then she would say Congress is trying to shield him.

3:10 pm: BJP distances itself from Vijay Jolly`s protest

The Bharatiya Janata Party has distances itself from the protests led by Vijay Jolly today outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence in Saket.

When approached by a news agency, former BJP president and Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari said he would talk to Jolly and then take an appropriate action.

"The BJP has no connection with the protest outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence," said Gadkari.

3:04 pm: Congress condemns BJP`s Vijay Jolly

Congress women`s wing chief Shobha Oza condemns the act of South Delhi BJP MLA Vijay Jolly, who protested outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence.

Jolly, while demanding Shoma`s immediate arrest for allegedly trying to cover-up sexual harassment complaint filed against Tehelka`s editor Tarun Tejpal by a woman journalist, Jolly defaced the nameplate outside the magazine`s former managing editor`s house and wrote `accused` on it with black ink.

"This is the face of the BJP, they are goondas. They are victimising other women through such acts," adds Oza.

2:25 pm: Shoma meets NCW member

Shoma Chaudhury, who resigned from the post of managing editor of Tehelka earlier today, meets NCW member in-charge of Goa Shamina Shafiq and is understood to have briefed her about the magazine`s response in dealing with alleged sexual assult case against its editor Tarun Tejpal.

Chaudhury visits the NCW office in Central Delhi and briefs Shafiq about the response of Tehelka after receiving complaints of the women journalist who accused Tejpal of sexual assult, sources said.

1:50 pm: BJP`s protest intensifies

Delhi BJP workers intensify their protest outside Shoma Chaudhury`s house in Saket. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Jolly, who is heading the group of protesters, defaces nameplate outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence, writes `accused` on it. Meanwhile, Shoma Chaudhury leaves her residence amid protests, says she will speak to the media at an appropriate time.

12:50 pm: Tejpal seeks more time to appear before Goa police

Amidst reports of his arrest, Tarun Tejpal has sent a letter to crime branch at Dona Paula, in Panaji, to seek more time to appear before it.

In the letter to Crime Branch police inspector Sunita Sawant, Tejpal writes he needs two more days to respond to the police summons.

Mentioning he would appear before it on Saturday afternoon, Tejpal`s letter to Goa Police vows his readiness to cooperate in investigation.

Meanwhile, Tejpal`s lawyer Sandeep Kapur says: "We are not planning to move Supreme Court for any relief."

It was earlier reported that the Tehelka founder-editor is on way to Goa to meet a deadline to appear before the Goa Police before 3 pm today.

Former BJP president and Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari says law will take its own course in Tarun Tejpal`s case. He adds there is no politicisation of the matter.

11:55 am: Tarun Tejpal to be arrested on arrival in Goa?

Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal is reported to be on his way to Goa.

Goa Police has summoned Tejpal to appear before it in connection with the sexual assault allegation against him.

Media reports are saying that Tejpal could be arrested as soon as he arrives in Goa by flight.

11:35 am: `CCTV grab shows Tejpal entering lift with woman journo`

In more trouble for Tehelka`s founder-editor Tarun Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting his junior colleague, the CCTV footage sourced by Goa Police from a starred hotel has "corroborated" the facts narrated by the woman journalist, a senior officer says.

"It is clear in the CCTV footage, dated November 7, outside the lift in Block 7 of the hotel that something went wrong in the lift," the officer said.

"The footage initially shows Tejpal and the victim woman accompanying Hollywood actor Robert De Nero to the latter`s room. This was around 9 PM when Tejpal is seen entering the lift with his hands on the shoulders of the young journalist," the officer said.

He further said, "One-and-half hours later, around 10:30 PM, Tejpal is seen near the same elevator on the ground floor pulling the woman inside". The officer said the lift was seen opening on the second floor almost after two minutes.

"The woman is seen coming out of the elevator adjusting her clothes and running down the steps as Tejpal follows her," the officer added.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar, on microblogging website Twitter, takes a dig at Tehelka controversy and Shoma Chaudhury`s resignation.

11:10 am: Tarun Tejpal will be arrested, says N Ram

Veteran journalist N Ram says he is sure Tarun Tejpal will be arrested and police have done a thorough job in the case. He adds Tarun Tejpal is terribly wrong in saying the BJP is prejudiced; he brought partisan politics into it. Hailing the `brave` woman journalist, N Ram says her statement is very precise and she is being supported by everyone.

On Shoma Chaudhury, N Ram says she is a well-informed person, she knew the amended law, so there is no excuse for her to not have taken action.

10:40 am: Protest outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence

Delhi BJP workers, led by Vijay Jolly, protest outside Shoma Chaudhury`s residence. Jolly maintains that the BJP is not politicising the issue.

10:34 am: Shoma fearing arrest, says NCW member

Commenting on Shoma Chaudhury`s resignation, member of the National Commission for Women and noted lawyer Nirmala Samant-Prabhavalkar, meanwhile, says the Tehelka managing editor may have resigned because she is fearing arrest. Shoma`s resignation shows that she doesn`t even want to cooperate with the police. Her statements were not supportive, adds Samant-Prabhavalkar.

Shoma is guilty of surpressing the evidence, which is an offence under the Indian Penal Code. Hence, she must have been adviced to dissociate, adds the NCW member.

10:22 am: `Goa police may arrest Tejpal`

Noted lawyer Shyam Keswani, who is assisting the young victim, says if Tarun Tejpal doesn’t appear today before the court, the Goa police would arrest him.

10:20 am: Tarun Tejpal leaves for Goa

A report says Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting a woman journalist, left New Delhi for Goa this morning. He has been told to appear before the Goa Police for interrogation at 3 pm today.

Crime branch sources said that he has intimated the police that he will be appearing before them today.

Tejpal is said to have left for Panaji by a morning
flight via Mumbai.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh, in the meantime, says Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury’s resignation has come late and she should have resigned long time back. He further claimed that Tehelka is a mouthpiece of Congress.

Taking a dig at Digvijay Singh, the BJP says as the Congress leader showered terrorist Osama bin Laden with respect by calling him `Osama ji`, same way he is now calling Tarun Tejpal as `Tejpal ji`.

As per a news agency, the Janata Dal (United) has asked Tarun Tejpal not to hide and surrender in front of police.

Annie D Raja, the general secretary, National Federation of Indian Women, holds Shoma Chaudhury responsible for tarnishing the journalist`s image and making the issue so public.

8:25 am: `Shoma Chaudhury resigns`

Tehelka`s managing editor Shoma Chaudhury resigns from her post. In an e-mail she sent to her colleagues just before 6 am today, Chaudhury said she didn`t want questions raised about her integrity to "tarnish the image of Tehelka". Saying this had been a "damaging" time for everyone associated with the magazine, the resignation e-mail says: "To my mind, I acted on instant outrage and solidarity for our colleague as a woman and co-worker."

"After the first steps to immediately address her expressed needs, the process of setting up the anti-sexual harassment committee was begun. There were only two days to act on the complaint before the story broke in the press. Post this, things have been misconstrued and have snowballed exponentially in the media, based on half-facts and selective leaks," Chaudhury says.

She further denied allegations of attempting a "cover-up", saying: "While I accept that I could have done many things differently and in a more measured way, I reject the allegations of a cover-up because in no way could the first actions that were taken be deemed suppression of any kind. As for my feminist positions, I believe I acted in consonance with them by giving my colleague’s account precedence over everything else."

7:50 am: Tarun Tejpal`s deadline to appear before Goa Police ends today

After the former Tehelka woman journalist recorded her statement before a Goa magistrate, the Goa police on Wednesday issued summons to the magazine`s founder-editor Tarun Tejpal to appear before the crime branch of Goa Police for questioning.

Tejpal has been told to appear at Dona Paula, in Panaji, before 3 pm on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court had reserved its order on a plea for anticipatory bail by Tejpal who is battling charges of sexual assault.

The court also declined to grant four weeks interim protection to Tejpal against arrest by the Goa Police.

Justice Sunita Gupta reserved the order for November 29 after hearing counsel representing Tejpal and Goa Police.

Meanwhile, under attack over the way she handled the issue, Tehelka`s managing editor Shoma Chaudhury denied indulging in character assassination of her colleague who has pressed charges against Tejpal.

The victim, who gave her statement to the police in Mumbai on Tuesday, was flown to Goa on Tuesday night quietly. On Wednesday, she appeared along with a lady police officer before a judicial magistrate.

A statement recorded before a judicial magistrate makes it admissible in court as evidence and is a preferred legal route in case of sensitive crimes.

12:43 am: Shoma Chaudhary may not attend IIM-A media confluence event

Tehelka magazine`s managing editor Shoma Chaudhary would not be present at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad media confluence scheduled for November 30.
