Hyderabad: Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader A Narendra died here on Wednesday after prolonged illness.
He was 67.
Narendra had been suffering from paralysis and other ailments and the end came this afternoon, BJP sources said.
Narendra served as Union Minister of State for Rural Development during UPA I when he was in TRS. He served as MLA twice and MP an equal number of times.
He joined RSS during his childhood and participated in a number of popular movements, including `Rann of Kutch Satyagraha` on Indo-Pak border against Pakistan`s occupation and also the movement against the Simla Pact and was jailed for a month in Delhi, the sources said.
The veteran politician came to be known as `Tiger Narendra` for his audacious role in fighting against MIM in the old city of Hyderabad, a BJP release said.
Narendra, however, left BJP in 2001 and formed an outfit to fight for separate Telangana, which later merged with TRS. He returned to BJP subsequently.
BJP leaders LK Advani, Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and several other leaders condoled the death of the former minister.
