PM Narendra Modi greets nation on Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday greeted the people of India on the occasion of the 68th Independence Day.

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 68th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the people of India.
"Greetings to my fellow Indians on Independence Day! May our tricolour fly high and our nation scale new heights of development. Jai Hind!" Modi said in a tweet.

An additional 2,000 paramilitary personnel besides over 5,000 policemen are keeping vigil during this year`s Independence Day celebration at the Red Fort owing to the threat perception to PM who unfurled the Tricolour here today.

PM also paid homage at the Raj Ghat - Mahatma Gandhi`s memorial on the banks of the Yamuna.

The PM then offered flowers at the blackstone memorial before heading to the Red Fort monument to deliver his maiden Independence Day speech.
