New Delhi: Even as concerns grow over Ramdev Baba’s health condition, the UPA government has dismissed the possibility of coming back to the negotiating table over the demands made by the yoga guru.
As per media reports, Saturday, although the Centre is keen to avoid any further embarrassment over the issue but at the same time is also unwilling to be seen as buckling under pressure by the fasting Baba.
The Congress had a very public showdown with Ramdev when he and his supporters were booted out of the Ramila Maidan in Delhi in the intervening night of June 4-5.
Baba has been on fast since then and considering the sensitiveness of the issue, the UPA is now using other channels to negotiate with him.
As per reports, Law Minister Veerappa Moily is in touch with Sri Sri Ravishankar to convince Ramdev to give up his fast. The Art of Living founder is in Haridwar and had met him yesterday.
Meanwhile, social activist Swami Agnivesh – a key member of the Anna Hazare camp – had also met Pranab Mukherjee and offered to mediate.
Mukherjee had a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well and berifed him about the steps being taken to break the deadlock.
