Kolkata: Conceding that the party failed to attract new generation voters, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday said there was a need to discuss the present political and strategic line as it failed to increase its strength.
"The results have shown that party`s political strength and influence has decreased. There has been a failure in attracting new voters. The party`s strength has decreased among the middle class sections too. The failure to increase party`s independent strength has put the need on the discussion on party`s political and strategic line that needs to be discussed," said Karat in a party statement.

In the wake of rout faced by CPI(M) in the Lok Sabha polls, the chorus for advancing the party Congress was heard among a section of party leaders.

Karat, who addressed the party state committee meeting during the day said that the party conference would take place at an appropriate time.

"Before the party conference, a draft political resolution and party`s strategy will be discussed in all the levels of the party," Karat said.
