New Delhi: The National Commission for Women on Friday sent a notice to the Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for his rape remarks made a day earlier at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh`s Moradabad city.
While rebuking Yadav for his remark, member of NCW Shamina Shafiq said that such statements are deplorable and the commission will take firm step against it.

Meanwhile, the NCW has sent a notice to Yadav to provide explanation within three days, failing which he will have to appear before the commission.

The NCW has also made an appeal to Chief Election Commissioner to intervene in the matter and take necessary action against Yadav.

Besides this, many women rights groups are holding protests against the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

Yadav, in a rally at Moradabad, had said, "Ladkon se aisi galtiyan ho jaati hain to iska ye matlab nahin ki phaansi de di jaye (Boys do make such mistakes but that does not mean that they should be sent to the gallows).”

He also said, “Death penalty for rape is unfair. Will change rape laws when we come to power,"

His remarks were slammed by many political parties and women activists.
