Narendra Modi wave `propaganda` by corporate entities: Buddhadeb

CPI(M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee dismissed claims of a Modi wave in the country as as "propaganda" by corporate entities.

Kolkata: CPI(M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday dismissed claims of a Modi wave in the country as as "propaganda" by corporate entities.

He also alleged that some media houses were trying to create a Modi wave.

"There is no Modi wave in the country. It is totally a corporate entity-led propaganda. I am surprised that corporate entities can make and unmake things," Bhattacharjee told a meet-the-press programme at the Press Club here.
He alleged that some corporate houses were giving funds to some media houses to carry on a propaganda for Modi.

Asked whether a Modi wave was visible in the state, the former chief minister said, "I have visited districts and found no such wave. Only some media houses are trying to create that wave here."

On whether the BJP in Bengal would draw dividends from the so called Modi wave in the country, Bhattacharjee said, "I don`t think so.”

"The people of this state, not only a particular community, will not accept this. I have faith in the people of this state."

He also said that it was unfair to show Modi filing nomination on TV while polling was on in other parts of the country.
"Attention of Election Commission has been drawn to the matter though the damage has already been done. I hope from next time such things will not be repeated," he said.

On the oft-repeated Gujarat model of development, he said, "Modi`s model of development is a corporate model. We are talking about inclusive growth."

Bhattacharjee charged that corporate entities and RSS had joined hands to bring Modi to power.

"The RSS and corporate entities have joined hands which is dangerous. The RSS is a dangerous organisation, which doesn`t believe in co-existence of other religions," Bhattacharjee charged.

The Left, he said, would maintain equi-distance from both the Congress and BJP.

On the possibility of his party giving support to Congress if needed, he replied, "We don`t want to bring back a neo-liberal Congress to power. We want to defeat both BJP and Congress. The economic policies of both the Congress and BJP are same. BJP on the other hand is a communal party."

Asked about the alternative front floated by the Left and whether it would seek the support of the Congress to form the government, he said, "We want an alternative front to come to power by defeating both Congress and BJP."

On whether Trinamool Congress would have any place in the alternative front as it too was opposed to Congress and BJP, Bhattacharjee said, "No, not at all. They are with the BJP let them be there only."

He said the Trinamool Congress supremo had never acknowledged that aligning with BJP in the past was a mistake.

"Neither is she saying that she will not go with BJP in future."
