A heavy downpour is expected in many parts of north and east India in the coming two days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted Saturday.

New Delhi: A heavy downpour is expected in many parts of north and east India in the coming two days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted Saturday.

"Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh, as well as over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh," a met official said.

The met office said the rain would subside after two days in the national capital and adjoining states.

"Rain or thundershowers are expected at many places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi during the next 48 hours (to Monday evening)," the official added.

The met office has predicted the maximum temperature in the capital Sunday at 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 24 degrees Celsius.
