Medininagar (Jharkhand): Maoists are using
innocent children and women as shields to escape during
encounters with security forces, a senior CRPF official said
on Wednesday.
"Security forces should be more alert in their fight
against Maoists as they are using children and women in
villages as shields to escape (during encounters)," P M Nair,
Additional Director General of CRPF, said here.
Talking to reporters after reviewing CRPF deployment in
Palamau division ahead of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun
Munda`s visit tomorrow, Nair asked villagers to stay away from
strangers and assured full protection from the rebels.
"They (Maoists) can be tamed easily, but information
(about their movement or presence) should be accurate which
requires strong intelligence network.... CRPF personnel should
keep close contact with local police," Nair said.
Asking the CRPF men to be alert about "their own safety",
he said coordination between CRPF and local police was good.
He asked the security forces to keep vigil on borders of
Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh as Maoists might sneak into Jharkhand
in the wake of operation against them following the gunning
down of 11 securitymen in Chhattisgarh two days ago.
Nair requested Jharkhand government to increase food
ration for CRPF men deployed at various places to fight ultras
in difficult hilly terrains.
Extra vigil was being kept in Palamau, West and East
Singhbhum districts and Bokaro`s Jhumra hills as these areas
attract naxalites for their forest cover, he said.
