New Delhi: The Indian Navy will formally receive the first fully ingeniously built anti-submarine warfare (ASW), INS Kamorta, at Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
The naval warship will be handed over to the Indian Navy by Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) after a brief ceremony today.
The first of the four such ships, INS Kamorta will be the first to integrate rocket launcher for anti-submarine warfare.
INS Kamorta is the first ever warship built in the country with around 90 per cent of indigenous content including special grade high-tensile (DMR249A) steel produced by Steel Authority of India.
The hull of the ship encompasses the bulk of sensors and weapon systems that are also indigenously manufactured by various Indian industries.
Designed by Directorate of Naval Design (DND), the successful construction of ASW corvettes with advanced stealth features also bears testimony to GRSE`s growing capabilities in building state-of-the-art naval combatants comparable with the best in the world, the release added.
