Govt acting against arm dealers only after probe abroad: CPI-M

With a CBI probe ordered into allegations of bribery in supply of aircraft engines to state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the CPI(M) said the UPA Government is forced to take such steps after foreign governments act against arm dealers.

New Delhi: With a CBI probe ordered into allegations of bribery in supply of aircraft engines to state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the CPI(M) on Monday said the UPA Government is forced to take such steps after foreign governments act against arm dealers.
"Like in Augusta case UPA Govt forced to order CBI probe into HAL purchase only after foreign govts act against arms dealers," party general secretary Prakash Karat tweeted.
The Defence Minister ordered a CBI probe into allegations that the global engine manufacturing firm London-based Rolls Royce had paid bribes to Indian defence officials to bag military contracts from 2007 to 2011 in deals worth over Rs 10,000 crore.
