Gopinath Munde`s last rites to be performed in Beed tomorrow

The last rites of Union Rural Development minister Gopinath Munde will be performed at his native village in Maharashtra`s Beed district with full state honours on Wednesday, a day after his tragic demise in a road accident in the national capital.

New Delhi: The last rites of Union Rural Development minister Gopinath Munde will be performed at his native village in Maharashtra`s Beed district with full state honours on Wednesday, a day after his tragic demise in a road accident in the national capital.

The body of the late political leader was taken to the Bharatiya Janata Party`s (BJP) Delhi headquarters on Tuesday where senior party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute.

His mortal remains were later flown to Mumbai in the evening so that friends and family members could pay their last respects to the late leader at his Worli residence.

Munde`s body will now be taken to BJP`s headquarters at Nariman Point where party workers will pay their tributes.

The mortal remains of Munde will be taken to Latur airport and then to his native Parali-Vaijnath village Wednesday morning where the last rites will be performed at 4:30 pm.
Munde met with a road accident in Delhi today while he was on his way to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport to travel back to Mumbai after attending a meeting in the national capital.

The accident took place at around 6:30 am when a car rammed into his vehicle critically injuring him.
He was the lone person sitting at the back of the car at the time of the accident.

He even asked for water from his his security guard Nair after the accident and directed him to drive the car to the hospital.

The late leader was an MP from Beed district and the OBC face of BJP in Maharashtra.

Munde was elected as Maharashtra legislator for five times, was the Leader of Opposition, deputy chief minister and Lok Sabha`s deputy leader of opposition before being elected as the Union Minister for Rural Development.
