Four persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as the monsoon subsided in most parts of northern India.

New Delhi: Four persons were killed in
rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as the monsoon
subsided in most parts of northern India.

One person each was killed in Farukkhabad, Sitapur,
Lakhimpur and Lucknow in separate incidents of wall collapse
and drowning.
The Central Water Commission said major rivers
continued to swell. It said the Ganga was swelling at Gumtia
(Kannauj), Kanpur, Ankinghat (Kanpur rural), Ghazipur, Ballia
and Dalmau in Rae Bareli district.

Yamuna was swelling at Agra, Auriaya and Kalpi while
Gomti river was rising at Jaunpur.

The Met office said Jaunpur received 24.6 mm rain,
Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) 5 mm, Gorakhpur 1.2 mm and Lucknow
14.6 mm.

Rains, however, remained absent from other parts of
the northern region where the weather was dry and temperatures
hovered around the normal.

In Punjab and Haryana, Ludhiana and Patiala had a high of
33.8 degree celsius respectively and Ambala had a day
temperature of 32.8 degrees and Karnal 31.6 degrees.
The union territory of Chandigarh had a maximum of
33.6 degrees while it was 37 degrees in Hisar, two degrees
above normal.

In Rajasthan, the weather remained dry with no rain
anywhere in the state, the Met office said.

Churu was the hottest place in the state with a
maximum of 40 degrees, followed by Bikaner at 38 degrees.
Capital Jaipur had a day temperature of 37 degrees, it said.

Himachal Pradesh too had a dry day today with only
Dharamsala experiencing light rains measuring 2.8 mm, the Met
office said.

The residents of Queen of the Hills enjoyed a pleasant
and sunny day today as the day temperature stood at 24.1
degrees.

Sundernagar registered a maximum of 31.4 degrees,
while it was 31.6 degrees Bhuntar, 34.4 degrees in Una and
22.2 degrees in Kalpa, the Met office said.
