Lucknow: India`s former deputy consul-general, Devyani Khobragade, is likely to take charge of office in Ministry of External affairs headquarters on Saturday.
39-year-old Khobragade arrived in New Delhi yesterday after she was asked to leave US following her indictment in a visa fraud case.
The US had said that Khobragade no longer enjoys immunity and and arrest warrant may be issued against her.
Taking a firm stand on the recent developments, India expelled a senior American diplomat and asked him to leave the country.
India had demanded an unconditional apology from the US in regard to the arrest of India`s deputy consul general in New York after the widespread outrage. Devyani, however, denied all charges of visa fraud and underpaying her nanny Sangeeta Richards.
The indictment said that Devyani had listed a monthly pay of $4,500 to her servant but the figure did not match that of the actual income.
