CWG scam: 6 arrested in streetscaping project case

The CBI has arrested six persons including two senior MCD officials and an employee of Philips India for alleged irregularities in tendering process of streetscaping project awarded ahead of Commonwealth Games.

New Delhi: The CBI has arrested six
persons including two senior MCD officials and an employee
of Philips India for alleged irregularities in tendering
process of streetscaping project awarded ahead of Commonwealth
Games.
The agency has arrested the civic body`s Executive
Engineer O P Mahala, Superintendent Engineer D K Sugan, tender
clerk Gurucharan, Directors of Sweka (a private company) T P
Singh and P P Singh and representative of Philips India Mehul
Karnik, agency sources said.

The accused have been sent to police remand for four
days by a special court here.

The Rs 34-crore project was to improve the street
lighting system along 100 kilometers of road in the area
covered by Municipal Corporation of Delhi as part of
facelifting of the national capital. The project was bagged by
Delhi-based M/s Sweka.
In the award of contract, MCD officials allegedly in
connivance with the company increased the quoted amount of the
project and earned kick backs, the sources said.

The agency had filed the FIR in June, 2010 on the
recommendation of the Central Vigilance Commission.

During the probe, CBI had found evidence of alleged
tampering of documents and forgery in the bid papers, the
sources said.
