CPI accuses govt, CBI, ED of shielding Hasan Ali

Communist Party of India accused the government, CBI and Enforcement Directorate of shielding Hasan Ali, an accused in massive money laundering and tax evasion, who was granted bail recently.

Lucknow: Communist Party of India on Monday
accused the government, CBI and Enforcement Directorate of
shielding Hasan Ali, an accused in massive money laundering
and tax evasion, who was granted bail recently.

"A strong case was not prepared against Hasan Ali, who
is accused of depositing 800 crores and illegal transactions
in foreign countries and therefore he got bail," CPI general
secretary AB Bardhan alleged.

He alleged that the govern met paved way for Ali by
using CBI and ED so that further proceedings could not be
initiated in future against "big account holders having
blackmoney".

Bardhan also alleged that the government was making
excuses for not bringing Rs 72 lakh crore blackmoney deposited
in foreign countries.

"Budget session in Uttar Pradesh ended merely in seven
sittings. Similarlay sitting of Parliament, which proceeded
for around 100 days, has been reduced by almost half," the CPI
general secretary claimed.

Bardhan accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of just
passing the buck to his subordinates, over appointment of PJ
Thomas as the Central Vigilance Commissioner.

"Our question is that why the PM made the mistake of
deliberately appointing a tainted person as the CVC," he said.

Bardhan said that the Union budget was prepared
keeping in mind the interests of corporate houses and subsidy
was curtailed to give then additional rebates.

On being asked about the possibilities of success of the
Left front in Bengal, Bardhan said that the existing
government has made a number of achievements in its regime and
changes were felt by people.

Criticising the Mayawati government, he alleged that it
was using police to violate constitutional and political
rights of the people and CPI would soon launch a state-wide
agitation on the issue of price rise, corruption and
unemployment.
