Lucknow: In his maiden public appearance as a Bharatiya Janata Party member, former Indian Army chief General VK Singh on Sunday took a dig at the Congress party saying its claim of army`s welfare was a sham.

Sharing the dais with BJP`s prime-ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at party`s Vijay Shankhnad Maha Rally here, Singh questioned Centre`s policies with regards to the armed forces and asked, "What they are telling about welfare of armed forces is misleading. What happened that the Navy Chief had to quit?”

Ceasing the opportunity to drum support for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Singh addressed the crowd at the rally saying, “When you go back from here, go with the determination that you will get as many people to vote for the BJP.”
The former Army chief after appearing for Anna Hazare`s anti-corruption bandwagon, joined the BJP on Saturday, calling it the only "nationalist party" and expressed his desire to "work for the nation".
