New Delhi: Senior Congress leaders, including Rashid Alvi and Manish Tewari, today unanimously condemn ed the statement of Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should take a two year break from politics.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury even demanded action against Brar by the Congress leadership.

"Why didn`t the leader say this in the CWC meeting? I am very saddened by this statement and I demand action against him by the Congress leadership," he said.

Senior party leader Rashid Alvi also told ANI, "Such statements are unfortunate. If a party member wants to say something, then, they should say it at the party forum. Sonia Gandhi is the undisputed leader of the Congress party."

"Sonia Gandhi is same person who led the party to victory in 2004. If today, there has been a small defeat, then such statements are very unfortunate. Congress can`t be strong without Sonia Gandhi," Alvi added.

Manish Tewari said that these unnecessary comments are avoidable and that it was the time for the party to come together.

He said, "There is no doubt that the results of the Lok Sabha elections were not as expected, but that does not mean that we start making allegations against each other or start insinuating. This is the time for the party to come together."
Former Congress MP Brar had stated on Friday that there was no harm if Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi took two years off and handed over the reins of the party to a newer leadership.
