Meerut: A complaint has been filed in a local court against hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and writer-activist Arundhati Roy for their alleged anti-India remarks at a seminar in Delhi in October.
Assistant Chief Judicial Magistrate BD Bharti posted the matter for a hearing on January 4.
Joint Secretary of Meerut College Students Union Varun Goel submitted an application in the court in which he alleged that remarks of Geelani and Roy on Kashmir had violated the law of the land, Goyal`s counsel Nadeem Ahmad said.
Geelani and Roy had shared dais at a seminar `Azadi - the only way` on October 21. Geelani was heckled by the audience that day.
On November 29, the two were booked on charges of sedition by Delhi police for their speech following a directive from a local court on a petition filed by one Sushil Pandit.
Roy and others were charged under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between classes), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (false statement, rumour circulated with intent to cause mutiny or offence against public peace.
The sections invoked are non-bailable and if arrested, they have to approach court for bail.
