Allahabad: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday
described China`s opposition to Dalai Lama`s tour of Arunachal
Pradesh as "proxy aggression against India" and asked the
Centre to put pressure on Beijing for Tibet`s independence.

"China`s opposition to Dalai Lama`s visit to Arunachal
Pradesh is yet another instance of its proxy aggression
against India. Already, it has been trying to destabilise us
by providing arms and ammunition to Maoists", VHP
international president Ashok Singhal said in a statement
here.

"The then Defence Minister George Fernandes was right in
calling China our enemy number one nearly a decade ago", he
said.

Singhal came down heavily on China for "continuing to
interfere in our internal matters nearly half a century after
it had forcibly occupied the autonomous region of Tibet".

"The Government of India must take up the issue of Tibetan
autonomy with the Communist government in China and must not
hesitate from taking up arms against Chinese aggression if the
situation so demands", he said.

"Besides, steps must be taken to curb the entry of cheap
Chinese goods which is harming the Indian economy. We appeal
to the people of the country to refrain from using items
manufactured in that country", he added.

The VHP supremo also expressed strong displeasure over
the "insult" to Hindi in Maharashtra by elements bent on
"destroying national integrity", an apparent reference to
attack on Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi by MNS MLAs, and the
recent `fatwa` against "Vande Mataram" at Deoband.
