New Delhi: The immediate political future of Andhra Pradesh, prior to its planned bifurcation, may be decided on Wednesday with the Centre likely to decide on the next government there.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh indicated this yesterday after talks between central party leaders and Seemandhra Congress leaders.

Digvijay said that Wednesday may bring clarity on the next government in Andhra Pradesh.
At the talks yesterday, which were attended by senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh, Ahmed Patel and Motial Vora, it was decided that the Congress should stake claim to form the government, sources said.

Sources added that state leaders Chiranjeevi and Kanna Lakshminarayana are leading the race for CM`s post.

N Kiran Kumar Reddy has resigned as Andhra Pradesh chief minister and also quit the Congress following the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament. He is expected to form a new party.
Meanwhile, Digvijay also hinted that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) – the party which was born on the cause of creation of Telangana - will merge with the Congress. He said the consultation process between the two parties was over.

The TRS, however, denied any such headway. Party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said nothing was finalised so far on alliance or merger talks with the Congress.
