New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is understood
to have given its approval today to some proposed changes in
the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2010 on
providing technological support by IITs to the states.
Sources said there were some objections including from
the Parliamentary Standing Committee on HRD to some clauses
in the proposed amendment making it compulsory for IITs to
collaborate and assist technical institutions and governments.
The Government is also believed to have approved
inclusion of new IITs set up in Gandhinagar, Bhubaneswar,
Patna, Hyderabad, Indore, Mandi, Jodhpurm, Ropar in the Bill
along with the newly converted Institue of Technology, BHU
into an IIT.
These new IITs were set up in 2008.
