New Delhi: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav put up a spirited defence for his party’s government on the issue of VHP’s 84 Kosi Yatra in Parliament on Monday.
Taking on the BJP, Mulayam said that the Uttar Pradesh government has only upheld the Supreme Court’s order that status quo be maintain at Ayodhya till it decides on the Ram Janmbhoomi case.
He said that the BJP, by criticising the UP government, has proven that it has scant regard for law of the land and the courts.
The SP chief also rubbished the claims that many people were injured yesterday when the police prevented them from going to Ayodhya. “No one was injured, no one was assaulted, we only didnot allow them from going there (Ayodhya),” he said.
Accusing the BJP of trying to divide the nation on communal lines, he said, “They want to garner votes through `danga` (riots)” and added that the comman man and the seers have not supported the yatra.
He also said the BJP was behind the attack on his party’s office and accused it of `goondaism`.
