BJP demands special package for flood-hit areas

Accusing the Centre of being a silent spectator to the misery of people reeling under floods in Haryana and Punjab, the BJP today sought a special package for the affected areas.

Ambala: Accusing the Centre of being a
silent spectator to the misery of people reeling under floods
in Haryana and Punjab, the BJP today sought a special package
for the affected areas.

National secretary of BJP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is
part of a two-member team deputed by party president Nitin
Gadkari to take stock of situation in the two flood affected
states, demanded that the Centre send a team to the affected
areas to assess the damage.

After visiting several villages in Naggal here, the
BJP MP alleged that the government had not taken precautionary
measures to prevent the calamity.

"The Union Government is not taking this disaster
seriously. It is merely posing as a silent spectator," he told
reporters.

Sidhu demanded that at least Rs 25,000 per acre
compensation should be given to farmers whose paddy crops had
been destroyed in the flood and Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin
of those killed in the deluge.

Sidhu said the BJP would raise this issue in
Parliament and demand a special package for the flood affected
areas of Punjab and Haryana.
