New Delhi: Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi launched a scathing attack on BJP on Wednesday and said that the issue related to the Article 370 by the party is part of its `divisive agenda`.

“BJP knows that it cannot abolish Article 370. All the statements related to Article 370 are in view of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections,” he said.

Singhvi further reportedly said that the part where BJP denyied comment on the issue and then when it “ran to their remote control in Nagpur” is a part of well-orchestrated act.

He added that Congress condemns every statement made by the BJP which is orchestrated and meant for polarising and politicising.
The issue stirred a controversy after Minister of State (Independent) in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, said that a debate would take place on the relevance of Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

He added that they would make efforts to “convince” the “unconvinced” by reaching out to various section of society.

However, Singh later retracted his statement and said that he was `misquoted.`
Singh said that while BJP is in favour of abrogation of Article 370, it seeks to do the same with consensus of the people and in a democratic manner.

Reacting to the issue raised, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted that Article 370 was the `ONLY constitutional link between J&K and the rest of India`.
