New Delhi: With the government ruling out any further talks with the fasting Baba Ramdev, Gandhian Anna Hazare has opined that the yoga guru in not ‘mature enough’ to lead a social movement as he does not have expertise other than yoga.
Speaking to a newspaper, he said, “To get involved in social work, one needs to be alert about many things and Baba is yet to learn it. Baba has the habit of taking decisions unilaterally.”
Anna Hazare, who had observed a daylong fast at Rajghat to denounce the police crackdown on Baba Ramdev also appealed to the Centre –in view of yoga guru’s deteriorating health- to reopen dialogue with the yoga guru on humanitarian grounds.
Hazare said, “Government should intervene on humanitarian grounds and talk to Baba Ramdev. I am making this appeal purely on humanitarian grounds.”
Addressing reporters at his village Ralegan Siddhi, Anna Hazare said, “Constitution gives right to a citizen to stage dharnas and campaigns by going on fast.” So it was legitimate for Baba to go on fast, but it needed to be considered that his health was now failing, he felt.
Anna Hazare who himself is at loggerheads with the government over the drafting of a strong Lokpal Bill, has termed his movement as the "second independence struggle" - a call that struck an instant cord across India.
The Anna Hazare group had, however, distanced itself from Ramdev`s decision to raise an armed force to resist any government crackdown on the anti-corruption movement, saying all protests have to be non-violent.
Ramdev’s fast entered eighth day today.
