New Delhi: After the sudden resignation of Admiral DK Joshi on Wednesday, Western Navy Commander Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha is likely to tender his resignation on Thursday.

According to PTI, Western Naval Commander Sinha has been under scanner after the number of accidents that have taken place under his command, the issue over which Admiral Joshi resigned from service.
He was even summoned to the Naval headquarters last month after a series of mishaps involving naval warships there and was pulled up by Admiral Joshi in his office.

The Defence Ministry is also miffed with him but it is not clear whether action would be initiated against him or not.

Eastern Naval Commander Vice Admiral Anil Chopra is the front-runner to succeed Admiral DK Joshi as the next Navy chief.

Indian Navy Chief Admiral DK Joshi resigned on Wednesday, owning moral responsibility for a string of accidents which have hit the naval vessels over the past few months.
The government has accepted his resignation with immediate effect, a Defence Ministry release said.

The resignation came barely hours after seven Indian Navy personnel were injured and at least two went missing after smoke filled a compartment in the INS Sindhuratna submarine that was underwater off Mumbai, about 50 nautical miles (80 km) in the Arabian Sea.

There were 94 sailors on board the submarine when smoke was reported in the sailors` accommodation.
