5.5 magnitude earthquake hits off Andaman coast, no tsunami threat

An earthquake with magnitude of 5.5 hit off the coast of North Andaman island.

New Delhi: An earthquake with magnitude of 5.5 hit off the coast of North Andaman island on Tuesday.

The earthquake struck at 12.37 pm at a depth of 35 km off the coast of North Andaman island, Director General of India Meteorological Department LS Rathore said.
Rathore added that there was no threat of tsunami.

The Indian Ocean and the Andaman Sea are prone to earthquakes and often records tremors.
