Mumbai: BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will on Monday felicitate Lata Mangeshkar, on the completion of 51 years since the legendary singer sang the patriotic song “Ae Mere Vatan Ke Logon”.

Lata Mangeshkar had rendered the song exactly 51 years ago on January 27, 1963.

The felicitation, as part of the Shreshtha Bharat Divas celebrations, will be held at Race Course, Mahalaxmi in Mumbai.
Many celebrities and national figures along with more than one lakh Indians are expected to sing the song today. However, Lata Mangeshkar will reportedly not sing the song either solo or in chorus.

On January 27, 1963, Mangeshkar had sung the song, remembering all the martyrs who lost their lives defending the country, in the presence of the country`s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Delhi.

The song had moved Nehru to tears in a historic moment.
Today`s programme, organised by Shahid Gaurav Samiti, an institution commemorating national heroes, in association with Lodha Foundation, is about the 1962 war between India and China.

The event will see over a hundred Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and other gallantry award winners being felicitated along with their families.
