Kishanganj: The Lok Sabha elections in 2014 would be a battle of ideologies said Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday at the foundation laying ceremony of a branch of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) here.
Sonia said, “It is a battle of ideologies (this time). The Congress believes in secularism.” And in a veiled attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, she added, “There are those who want to divide the country on the basis of religion. They only want the chair of PM, at any cost.”

The Congress chief followed it up by saying, “There are powers today which are trying to derail Mahatma Gandhi`s ideology. We must fight them.”

The UPA chairperson drummed up support for the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and wooing the minority-dominated constituency she said, “UPA government has given over one lakh crore in funds to Bihar.....The government is funding Madrasas so that Muslim children get education and that has helped them.”

She also highlighted UPA government`s achievements and seeking a third term in office for the alliance, said, “Congress has always been secular and that has made our country stronger. Country can develop only when there is unity.”
