Nagaland political crisis - Top 7 things you must know

The political drama in Nagaland took a sudden twist after Chief minister TR Zeliang stepped down from his post amidst attacks from Nagaland Tribes Action Committee and Joint Coordination Committee since January. Here are the top 7 things you must know

-Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang announced his resignation on  February 19, 2017

-Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) claim Zeliang made the request in a letter dated on February 16, 2017

-Zeliang had been under constant fire from the NTAC and Joint Coordination Committee since January when two people were killed in police firing during a protest against reservation of seats for women in Urban local bodies

-41 out of the 49 legislators who were in favour of removing Zeliang belonged to the ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) party.

-Out of the 60 member assembly, 39 want wanted Shurhozelie Liezietsu (NPF president) as the CM in place of Zeliang said NPF sources

-Naga People's Front (NPF) MP Neiphiu Rio, is also seen as a claimant to the CM's post

-In 2014, Rio had vacated the CM's chair for Zeliang to contest the Lok Sabha election.
