New Delhi: Despite winning maximum seats in the MCD bypolls, the results rang alarm bells for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party!
Even, AAP leader Dilip Pandey has also admitted during a press conference that the MCD bypolls results are not according to the party's expectations.
Noteworthy, out of 13 MCD wards that went to polls, 12 areas had AAP MLAs. Hence, AAP too was expecting to win at least 12 MCD wards.
Reportedly, internal surveys by AAP has predicted a strong win, bagging at least 12 seats, keeping in line with AAP’s Delhi Assembly elections performance. AAP was voted to power with 67 seats out of 70 in 2015 assembly polls.
AAP biggest loser?
Considering the vote share, AAP is the biggest loser as its vote share dropped from 54.2% in the 2015 elections to 29.93% now.
Vote count of various parties
Out of the total vote count, AAP bagged 91,775 votes (29.93 per cent).
Congress bagged 76,267 (24.87 per cent).
BJP despite finishing third, received the highest vote share of 34.11 per cent.
Overall, the results proved as a shot in the arm for Congress as it bagged 4 seats out of 13. However, AAP, making its debut in the civic bypolls, was hoping to replicate its Assembly polls magic but managed to get only 5 seats.
BJP emerged victorious in 3 seats.
Political pundits feel that the results of these bypolls will have a bearing on the 2017 municipal elections.
The MCD, which was trifurcated in 2012, has been a BJP-ruled body for nearly a decade. Out of these 13 wards, seven were previously held by BJP, one by RLD, and five by Independents
