Rail traffic in Mumbai back on track, some trains cancelled

Mumbai: Suburban train services in Mumbai, hit hard by yesterday's downpour, resumed on Saturday but long- distance services were yet to be normalised completely.

While the Western Railway (WR) had restored both suburban and long-distance services from last midnight, CR services resumed only in the morning.

"Since there is no waterlogging on the tracks, services were smooth," said Gajanan Mahatpurkar, senior PRO, WR.

But the Central Railway had to cancel some long-distance trains for the second consecutive day, as the trains halted at various stations could not reach CST and LTT stations here.

"Our suburban services were running as per Sunday schedule without delay as there was no waterlogging on the tracks," said A K Singh, its PRO, adding it may take a day or two to streamline the operations.

A CR statement said that 19 long-distance trains were cancelled and 11 rescheduled.

12140 Nagpur-CST Sewagram Express was terminated at Lasalgaon and will run as 12139 CST-Nagpur Sewagram Express from Lasalgaon, while 17058 Secunderabad-CST Devgiri Express was terminated at Goti and will run as 17057 CST-Secunderabad Devgiri Express from Devlali.

12106 Gondia-CST Vidarbha Express was terminated at Nasik Road and will run as 12105 CST-Gondia Vidarbha Express from Nasik Road. 12290 Nagpur-CST Duranto Express, 12169 Pune- Solapur Intercity Express, 12170 Solapur-Pune Intercity Express and 17617 CST-Hazur Sahib Nanded Tapovan Express were cancelled.

CR has set up a passenger helpline on 022-22624983.

Both CR and WR have cancelled their weekly mega-blocks (cancellation for track repairs) on Sunday.
