Mumbai: Parents of murdered Mumbai-based lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha will appeal in Bombay High Court against the ruling of a special court which gave the 24-year old killer Sajjad Ahmed Mogal life sentence.

The parents of the victim, who are senior bureaucrats, were expecting death sentence for the accused and expressed anguish after the verdict.

They argued that Mogal stabbed their daughter 16 times which calls for death penalty.
The court had convicted the accused of murder, molestation and criminal trespass.

Mogal was working as the watchman at Himalayan Heights skyscraper where the victim stayed with her fiance Avik Sengupta.
On the night of the incident, the accused had entered the flat using duplicate keys and attacked the victim with knife and slashed her throat after she fought off his rape attempt.
