Mumbai: On a day of sensational twists and turns, a web of lies and intriguing relationships emerged in the Sheena Bora murder case in which a former husband of accused Indrani Mukherjea was arrested on Wednesday as it came to light that the deceased was her daughter and not sister.
The motive of the murder still remains a mystery though Indrani's son Mikhail claimed he knew the real reason but would not disclose it.
Police also claimed that former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjea's wife Indrani was present at the site in Raigad district where Sheena was killed in 2012.
Taking the investigation beyond the state, Mumbai police arrested former husband of Indrani, Sanjeev Khanna, in connection with the case in Kolkata.
Sheena is stated to be Indrani's daughter from an earlier marriage with one Siddharth Das, as per PTI.
Meanwhile, Sheena's friends told the media that her mother kept her on a leash and that was disapproving of her affair.
Sheena Bora worked Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL), the company that runs Mumbai Metro.
This was before she disappeared.
As per a report in Hindustan Times, one of Sheena’s college friend said that she had once told them Indrani was not her sister, but her mother.
Sheena also apparently told her friends that her relationship with Rahul (Peter Mukherjea’s son) was not approved by Indrani.
The report does not reveal the identity of Sheena's friend.
On the other hand, Suyash Gupta, another friend of Sheena's said that she was a normal and friendly girl.
He also said that Sheena seemed to have a complicated life.
Sheena’s friends have floated an online campaign, ‘Justice for Sheena’.
They have asked anyone who had any information about her post 2011 to help the police.
The report quotes a Facebook post by Sheena’s friend Vatsala Aron as follows:
“A close friend of mine from college, Sheena Bora has been murdered by one of her family members according to the recent news articles. We just got the news today. We’ve been trying to trace her for the past two years but it’s been fairly impossible because her life in general was quite complicated – Struggling with her job, working for long hours etc. And what has happened makes us sad and angry. Though I still do hope that it isn’t true. Friends, if we have any info about Sheena, please do share. We need to inject some logic into this case, we know how high profile cases are treated in the country (sic)."
And another friend has this to say - “Indrani had Sheena on a leash and would send for a car to get her home randomly in the middle of lectures."
Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told reporters today that the murder was by strangulation followed by burning of the body by petrol.
The murder took place on 24 April 2012 and the body was found by Raigad police on May 23, he said.
A shocked Peter Mukherjea said he had believed that the deceased was Indrani's sister and not her daughter while Mikhail said Sheena was the daughter and not the sister of Indrani.
