Dombivali, Thane: Three people lost their lives and over 100 others suffered injuries when a huge blast ripped through the boiler unit of a chemical factory in Dombivali, near Kalyan in Thane district in Greater Mumbai region.

The blast occurred at Herbert Brown/Acharya Chemicals factory located in MIDC Phase 2 in Dombivali East, around 50 kilometres from Mumbai city.

The blast was so huge that shock waves were felt in a radius of 3-4 kilometres from the site with many residents reporting that window panes of their homes and offices got shattered by its impact.

Reports said that many people are feared trapped under the debris even as fire fighters have begun rescue work on a war footing.

Officials have sealed the immediate periphery of the factory to ensure that rescue work is carried out unhindered.

Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals like the AIMS hospital located in Milap Nagar, Dombivali East. Hospital contact number: 0251-247 5001.
