Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) today pulled down four unauthorised religious places which had encroached on roads as part of a demolition drive.

An anti-encroachment squad of the civic body headed by NMC Commissioner Abhishek Krishna and Deputy Municipal Commissioner R M Bahiram razed these illegal structures in different localities amid heavy police presence, an official release said here.

The religious structures, built after 2009, were unauthorised as they were constructed after encroaching on public roads, it said.

Ahead of the demolition, idols and other items kept insides these places of worship were removed by people managing them.

They were part of 84 unauthorised religious places which are to be pulled down in coming days.

The NMC had, after a survey, identified 284 religious places in this North Maharashtra city as illegal and they are to be demolished in phases.
