Raisen: A 35-year-old man was caught on camera on Sunday, beating up his minor nephew black and blue in full public view, for allegedly stealing guavas from his neighbourhood in Obedullaganj area near here.

Allegedly, Devkinandan Yadav tied up his brother's son Brijesh (11) near a busy Shiv Mandir close to the Arjun Nagar square and thrashed him mercilessly with a club, according to people who witnessed the incident.

People tried to rescue the boy from the wrath of Devkinandan, who was angry with his nephew for stealing his neighbour's guavas despite being warned not to do so, since it would bring his family a bad name, witnesses said.

After being informed, the police reached the spot and freed the boy from his uncle's clutches, witnesses said.

"We wanted to bring the parties concerned to the police station to act according to the law, but couldn't do so," Obedullaganj police inspector Narendra Singh Rathore told PTI, adding that Devkinandan and his elder brother Shivnandan Yadav, Brijesh's father, were averse to any police action in the case.

"So we had to beat a retreat after they said that it was their family matter," the police official said.

The police station said that Brijesh was taken to a primary health centre for a check up.

A video clip of the incident has been aired by some television channels.
