LDF victory in Kerala: Party will decide CM, says Achuthanandan

Thiruvananthapuram: With the CPM-led LDF appearing set to form the next government in Kerala, the focus has shifted to the big question – who will become Chief Minister?

Both 92-year-old VS Achuthanandan and party heavyweight Pinrayi Vijayan appear keen to take on the mantle – putting CPM's central leadership in a tough spot.

Responding to queries by media persons, Achuthanandan said, “Party will decide.” The former CM added that a wave in favour of the Left is visible in the state of Kerala.

Achuthanandan is leading from Malampuzha in Palakkad district as is Pinrayi Vijayan from Dharmadom in Kannur.

"It was a clear verdict against corruption and increase in prices of essential commodities. A clear warning to those who protect anti-social elements causing atrocities against women," he said.

As per latest trends, the LDF is doing extremely well in Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kannur, while the UDF is holding on its fort in Ernakulam and Malappuram.

The first declared result in Kerala has also gone in CPM's favour with party candidate George M Thomas of CPI(M) winning Thiruvambady in Kozhikode districts by a margin of 3121 votes.
