Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi continued with his attack on Congress and said that it is time to move towards clean governance while addressing people at his rally in the Palace Grounds here on Sunday.
He targeted the UPA government and said that while the present government has been unable to fulfil its promises of providing employment to the youths.
Speaking on the coal scam issue, he said, that even though the government had told the Supreme Court that the files went missing, “it’s not just files which are lost, the entire government is lost.”
He raised the issue of decreasing value of rupee and said, “the value of rupee is falling. It seems that the UPA’s rupee is in ICU,” Modi said.
Modi further said that the majority of population is under 35 years of age and if we focus on that then the face of the nation can be changed. “However, Congress merely see them as vote bank while our priority is to empower the youth,” Modi added.
Modi also said that the despite being a powerful tool, the government is looking for ways to restrict the use of social media.
Modi also alleged that after coming to power the Central government had overturned POTA thereby allowing terrorists and Naxals to go "scot-free".
Commenting on the onion price rise, Modi said that UPA 1 removed it from the essential commodities.
Modi said that during the tenure of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, IT sector saw a growth of around 40 percent which came down to 30 per cent under the UPA 1 rule and went further down to 9 per cent during UPA 2 regime.
He said that Vajpayee focused on the creation of a separate IT ministry.
Modi said that attacks on BJP and Modi have increased recently as others are unable to see the support that they garnered.
BJP president Rajnath Singh was also present at the rally.
Around three lakh people attended the ‘biggest rally’ in the city by paying Rs 10 as entry fee each person.
The BJP rally in Karnataka is crucial for the party which is hoping to work the Modi magic to restore confidence of people and revive BJP and bring the party back to power in the state. The party’s tenure from 2008-2013 was marked with charges of corruption and political infighting resulting in the change of the chief minister twice.
However, it lost the Karnataka Assembly polls earlier this year when Congress came to power.
Security was tightened for the rally with the deployment of around 5,000 personnel. Around 10 special trains and 4,000 vehicles were booked to ferry people to the venue.
