Srinagar-Jammu NH closed for second consecutive day

With no let up in snow and rains in Jammu and Kashmir, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway Sunday remained closed for the second consecutive day.

Srinagar: With no let up in snow and rains in
Jammu and Kashmir, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National
Highway Sunday remained closed for the second consecutive day.

The 300-km highway, the only surface link between Kashmir
and rest of the country, is closed for traffic for the second
day as there was no let up in snow, a spokesman of the traffic
control said.

Heavy snowfall from Friday night on Banihal-Jawahar
tunnel-Qazigund sector of the highway led to the closure of
vehicular movement from Saturday, police said.

Over 1,700 vehicles are stranded at various points -
Ramban, Banihal, Patnitop and Udhampur and Nagrota - on the
highway, they said.

The Border Roads Organisation`s efforts to clear the
highway of snowfall are being hampered due to continuous
snowfall, they added.
