Jammu: The CPI(M) on Wednesday demanded the J&K government to ensure immediate restoration of essential services which have been badly hit due to recent snowfall in the Valley.

"The government should ensure prompt restoration of essential services which have been badly affected after recent snowfall in the valley," CPI(M) State Secretary and legislator MY Tarigami said.

He said despite passing of several days, the situation continues to be grim in many rural areas.

"The ongoing board and university examinations demand improvement in the power scenario. The electricity has to be restored on war footing to save the future of the student community," Tarigami said, adding with the rise in water discharge of rivers, the government must revise the power curtailment schedule.

He called upon the Sayeed government to address the issue of shortage of ration, saying closure of national highway should not be allowed to precipitate the food crisis in the valley.

The Legislator also asked the government to intensify checks in the market to keep hoarders and black marketers at bay.

Highlighting the issue of damage to the property that reportedly occurred due to snowfall, Tarigami sought intensive survey to extend relief to the affected owners.
