New Delhi: Union Information & Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and few Congress leaders for seeking proof of India's surgical strikes across the border.
Slamming Kejriwal and Congress leaders like P Chidambaram, Digvijay Singh and Sanjay Nirupam, the Union Minister said there was no need to respond to such 'irresponsible comments and demands'.
“I don't think any other Indian citizen has any doubt about the credentials and commitment of our Indian Army,” Naidu asserted.
He maintained that his government will silently tackle the people, as the Indian Army conducted the surgical strike along the Line of Control.
Reacting to the demand of proof, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Whether it's Kejriwal or Sanjay Nirupam, they are not able to digest our achievements and thus making such illogical statements.
Taking a dig at Kejriwal, Pradhan said, “They don’t respect the Indian Army, all they care about is how many Pakistani newspapers carried their statements as their headlines."
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Tuesday created an uproar by terming the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army along the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as "fake".
Chidambaram on Monday had asked the government to give proof of the surgical strikes in which the Army destroyed seven terror launch pads in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday said Kejriwal should answer whether he believed in the Indian Army or not.
Kejriwal should not "belittle the great leadership, courage and sacrifice of armed forced under the garb of seeking proof," Prasad said, and alleged that he has give the neighbouring country a chance to question the Army's assertion.
The Army conducted surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads along the LoC on the intervening night of September 28 and 29, inflicting "significant casualties" on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from PoK.
The next morning, the DGMO had given this information to the media in a press conference.
India has maintained that it carried out the an Army operation and destroyed terrorist launch pads on the intervening night of September 28 and 29 following the September 18 attack by terrorists on an Army camp which killed 19 soldiers at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.
